In Memory Of My Father-In-Law

The mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children's children: To such as keep his covenant and to those that remember his commandments to do them. Psalms 103: 17-18

CHARLES MARION ISBELL
"IZZY"
3/17/1922-8/25/2009

I have had the great honor and privilege of being in the Isbell family and knowing my father-in-law for the past 34 years and what a trip it's been! Even before that, as a kid I occasionally went on the 'white-knuckled' ride up and down Langman's hill on his school bus to stay with my aunt and uncle. My grandma and aunts were friends with and went to the Foursquare church with his mother, Edith. Izzy was my grandpa's friend and because of that I earned Grandpa's permission to date one of Izzy's sons...and so it all began.

They really got me on this prank!!

Izzy generally stayed in the background of the family, a quiet listener, but when he spoke...you wanted to listen. He usually had something funny to say, a family story for us to cherish, or a nugget of wisdom. And the songs he sang..ahem, what fun! Many of the traditions he (and Marion) had with his children have been carried through to our family as well, like pajama rides and night hikes. Family times together have been wonderful as we've celebrated holidays and birthdays with lots of food, fun, white elephant gift exchanges, and the birthday march! We've vacationed together, canoed, worked, laughed, cried, hiked, agreed and disagreed, loved, worshiped, celebrated, grieved, eaten, joked... We've been family and it's been good. How very much you are missed Izzy...Grandpa...Dad.

  1. grandpa was a good man who was always fun to talk with. I feel blessed my children and I had the chance to know him. He'll live on in the hearts of the many who love him.
